This article describes how we were expected to be the first British company allowed into the Iraq to ensure the smooth
delivery of humanitarian aid. Peter Quinlivan, MD of Crime Management Services.
It´s all a far cry from protecting film stars and pop groups, but the renowned firm of security experts is set to play
key role in making sure aid supplies are delivered successfully in Iraq.
Private security firm Crime Management Services (CMS), is ready to deploy a 56 strong team in Baghdad, Basra and other Iraq
towns devastated by looting and anarchy, following the collapse of Saddam Hussein´s regime.
The award winning Liverpool based security firm is expected to be the first British company allowed into the country to ensure the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid.
“Every man in the team is a former police officer or member of the armed forces.
They are highly trained in fire-fighting, first-aid and evacuation procedures,” said CMS boss Peter Quinlivan.
“These people are highly skilled, very experienced, undergo continuous training and, during their service careers, will
have encountered the type of problems they could face in Iraq.
We realise this is a dangerous and difficult task, but the priority is to help the Iraq people rebuild their devastated
country.”
Once the team receives Government funding, staff will travel to Iraq for between one to six weeks at a time.
Peter expects the operation to last several months, and is already pulling employees back from other jobs.
“The idea is that we´ll protect former Government buildings, terminals and commercial areas,” said the 38
year old former Royal Engineer.
“We´ll employ local people, pay them a wage, which they´ll spend in shops, which we´ll also be
protecting.
That will be an essential part of stopping looting and disorder.”
