The Story

Crosby Aid for Kosovo 1999

After hearing about the plight of the Kosovan refugees, Jackie Caddick and Shaun Bamber decided to launch ´Crosby Aid for Kosovo´. A collection point in Lightbody street was opened, and within minutes of the opening the people of Liverpool started to arrive with bags of clothes, shoes, nappies and food. The response was overwhelming and a 30 ton mountain of donations from local people soon built up.

When we heard about the troubles in Kosovo we knew we had to do something for these people.

We paid for three lorries, which were loaded with the mountain of charitable donations from the kind people of Merseyside. We then drove the aid to Maglie in southern Italy and presented it to a local Italian charity for distribution to a nearby refugee camp holding 800 people. Local children cheered us and helped us unload the aid.

We saw a lot of children without parents and families that had been separated from their loved ones, we heard some horror stories.

We returned back to Liverpool a week later, totally exhausted, but it was worth it. Those people were so happy to see us, and very grateful for what we did.

Thanks to the people and businesses of Liverpool who made this event possible; you know who you are. Plus a special thank you to Jackie Caddick and Shaun Bamber who launched Crosby Aid for Kosovo.
